The area is a safe-haven for a variety of rare species of birds which can be viewed across the 680 acres of picturesque marshland and salt lagoons. You may also be able to glimpse rare birds, such as the red breasted mergansers. With the reserve’s accessible viewing platforms, you can marvel in breath-taking views of waterbirds on the 15-acre protected saline lagoon, that offers a safe breeding ground to rare species.

As well as the glorious wet grassland stretching as far as the eye can see, Freiston Shore provides visitors the space to relax and immerse themselves in nature, making it the ideal spot whether you’re an avid bird watcher, or just looking for a scenic place to walk and take a well-earned break.

Freiston Shore Nature Reserve is a glorious place to explore as the seasons change. Each season brings around new wildlife, whether it’s the avocets in the spring or the golden plovers in the winter, there’s plenty of stunning wildlife to see all year round.

Freiston Shore Nature Reserve is open to the public at all times with a 20-space car park on site. For up-to-date sighting information and star species you’re likely to see across the seasons, visit the RSPB website.
