Boston Guildhall

+ Google Map
South Street
Boston, Lincolnshire PE21 6HT United Kingdom
01205 365954 http://www.bostonguildhall.co.uk

Built in the 1390’s this building is a testament to the wealth and influence of the Guild of St Mary at a time when Boston’s power as a centre of trade was second only to London. This wonderfully preserved building, with a wealth of original features, has survived the centuries and is to be enjoyed as one of Boston’s finest visitor attractions. A wealth of stories, secrets and experiences are told and shared throughout the building including the history of the Guild of St Mary, international trade with the Hanseatic League, Henry VIII dissolve of the Guild, the foundation of the Corporation of Boston and the very famous trial and imprisonment of the Pilgrim Fathers. The Guildhall is also home to the towns museum collection where displays and exhibitions bring life to the stories told, and a stunning venue for civil ceremonies and private functions.

Admission to the museum is FREE and is open Wednesday to Saturday from 10:30 am to 3:30 pm with last admissions at 3 pm. As we are available for private hire there may be times when our opening hours are amended, please check our website or contact us for details.

The heritage-laden Banqueting Hall at the Guildhall is licensed for weddings and offers a historic backdrop which cannot be matched! The wedding ceremonies take place before the great west window in the Banqueting Hall where, for hundreds of years, people have celebrated their most important days. Wedding parties who choose the Guildhall for their special day get exclusive use of this medieval building, complete with the cells where the Pilgrim Fathers were held. If you’d like a smaller space for your ceremony we can also offer the Council Chamber. To sign your important document, the registry book, in the back drop of this Georgian styled room where many have signed the papers of the town is a truly emotive experience.

The Guildhall is available for weekday and weekend weddings and can accommodate 100 guests in the Banqueting Hall and 30 in the smaller Council Chamber room. After the ceremony guests can enjoy a drinks reception and perhaps a slice of wedding cake. Your photographs can be posed anywhere in the building, including the cells, to capture the romance of the building.

If you would like to visit us for an informal chat and to view the Guildhall in consideration as a venue for your special day please do contact us.
