Community Regeneration Day at The Beonna
April 6 @ 10:30 am - 2:30 pm£3
Learn about Benington Community Heritage Trust’s experiences in designing a project, planning for the future, obtaining funding and reopening a building for re-use. Whatever your interest or background, come along to find out more about how Benington Community Heritage Trust (a charitable group formed by residents) were able to restore, retrofit and modernise the closed medieval church of All Saints, creating a community-led shared space and events venue opening in spring 2019. Amelia Evans from the Churches Conservation Trust will also be on hand to talk about the support available for the community-led regeneration, re-purposing or re-vitalising of active and closed places of worship in particular. Rural groups may also be interested in hearing about new trends in the resident-led ownership and regeneration of rural spaces and services as a way of securing viability and sustainability for community, facilities and services alike.
You may have a project in mind, be part of a community group or simply be interested in regeneration, heritage, potential futures for historic buildings or the story of The Beonna itself.
The day will explore topics including the formation of a trust, accessing and understanding local need, pitching for investment and funding, securing support, appointing contractors and working through the construction programme. Plus, a Q+A session and a tour of the newly-converted Grade I listed church building dating from 1200.
