Everyone is welcome in Boston

Boston is a fantastic, historic town that deserves to be visited by everyone regardless of their specific accessibility requirements.

The town strives to foster an inclusive community and it is important to us that we remove any physical and perceived barriers that may prevent a relaxing and enjoyable visit. We are working hard to make sure everyone can enjoy everything Boston has to offer.

Many of the main things to do, places to stay and food & drink outlets offer accessible visits. Visit the attraction’s website for more information about specific accessible options.

St. Botolph's Church

There are sometimes unavoidable obstacles when it comes to exploring historic buildings e.g. uneven flooring, making it difficult for some visitors to access all parts of an attraction.

St Botolph’s Church has developed an accessible alternative to The Tower Experience at The Stump, allowing everyone to experience its beauty.

For visitors who are unable to climb the 209 steps of The Tower Experience, the team at The Stump have provided a fantastic interactive screen to give visitors an accessible way to experience those breathtaking views through a stunning 360 degrees interactive image captured from the top of the tower.

Parking for Blue Badge Holders

Blue Badge holders are permitted to park free of charge within all on-street car parks operated by the council. These include Market Place, Pump Square, South Square, Station Approach and Wide Bargate. Both the disabled badge and time clock should be clearly on display in the windscreen at all times.

Blue Badge holders must pay to park in all off-street car parks operated by the council. An additional free period of 30 minutes will be added to the expiry time of any ticket purchased, when the vehicle is displaying a Blue Badge.

The council recognises that some Blue Badge holders may have difficulty using a car park ticket machine and operates a disability payment scheme to enable these individuals to pay for parking without having to use the ticket machines.

If you have any concerns about your trip, you can visit the Tourist Information Centre or give them a call on 01205 365954. We are always looking to make our services better so please let us know if anything could be improved.

Boston Borough Council offers a Disability Payment Scheme for Blue Badge holders who may experience difficulties using the on-site car park ticket machines as a step towards improving the town’s accessibility for all visitors.
